FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH, A NOVEL

"What would you do if you could keep them alive forever?"

"How do we overcome a lifetime of grief?"

"What would you do if you could bring them back for one more day?"

Now available in paperback and electronic editions.

"These are some of the questions posed in FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH, my first novel.  The book has two concurrent story lines: The first is set in a small town in New York State (suspiciously similar to my childhood town of Penn Yan, NY, it has been pointed out), where Ray Jensen appears to have stumbled upon an elixir made from homemade wine that might keep you alive forever.  The second is the narration of an enormously fat man who has locked himself away on a cruise ship and has delusions of being a kind of God while he comes to grips with the premature loss of his beloved father.

It all kind of makes sense in the end.

It's very much about my life and the early loss of my dad." -- Jim Gullo

"The words that jump to mind to describe this book - clever, witty, imaginative, poignant - are all so clichéd that they end up feeling misleading to use relative to The Fountain of Youth. This is one audacious, unusual book. So let me say this: Fountain is a tender seduction, easing the reader into a willingness to ponder existential questions without the usual side effects of nausea and despair. Written in a style reminiscent of Glen David Gold, it intersperses belly laughs with gentle reminders that we are all a little better off if we ruminate a bit on how we are proceeding with our lives. You'll be a better version of yourself having read this book." -- Janet Noble Iversen, psychologist and author

4.0 out of 5 stars Totally Unique!, September 6, 2011

This book has one of the most unique story lines I've ever read. The characters are REALLY interesting, to say the least, and there are a lot of them! It took me a while to figure out who was who but it started coming together very nicely. Having just lost my elderly parents three years ago, it brought up the many questions about how God fits in our lives: our beliefs, our faith that God will be there with us at the end, and what's up with all this suffering??? Finally at the very end, we find out that the author's father died very young and he was left with a fear that he, too, would die young. I enjoyed Gullo's sense of humor and yet complete seriousness when facing all these issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fountain Worth Drinking From, June 24, 2011
A great book that I just could not put down. The characters and story line will definitely hold your attention and you find yourself wanting a sequel. A must read for anyone who has ever considered the existence of God in the context of their own mortality and that of their loved ones. You will find yourself appreciating the authors wit and wisdom and you can't help but laugh out loud at times.
