TweetNEWS FLASH: Wow, it has now been a year since TRADING MANNY was published. Baseball is back (you can set your watch by how many games out of first place the Mariners are). Steroids are still an issue in the game, of course. To celebrate, I just sent an autographed copy of MANNY to Commissioner Bud Selig, with my compliments for his tough new stance on penalizing cheaters. I've also been to two games already this year, on road trips to San Francisco and New York, where I had a wonderful time at Yankee Stadium and got to tour Monument Park for the first time.
ARTICLES UPDATE: My story about the people who train and utilize service animals (dogs, monkeys, horses) is running in the May issue of ALASKA AIRLINES MAGAZINE. Here's a link if you'd like to see it (the story begins on page 136): http://www.journalgraphicsdigitalpublications.com/epubs/PARADIGM%20COMMUNICATIONS%20GROUP/ParadigmAlaskaAirMayJune2013/#?page=6
I'm doing another piece for Alaska about fun things to do in Portland this summer, including visits to the new baseball park in Hillsboro. And for the Horizon Airlines Magazine, I'll have a funny essay about why I hate camping in the June issue.
I have a sweet profile about the new 4 Spirits Distillery, which is dedicated by owner Dawson Officer to his four buddies who were killed in Iraq, in the spring issue of SIP NORTHWEST magazine. Looking forward to serving as a judge for SIP's "Best of the Northwest" wine competition (last year we tasted something like 150 wines...damn, that's a lot of wine).
Look for a nice, brief interview that I did with Yankees first-baseman Mark Teixiera, as well as a wine column, in this year's issue of DISCOVERY LIFE magazine.
My story on rabid sports fan supporter groups, like the Portland Timbers Army and Oakland's Raider Nation, appeared in the February issue of the ALASKA
AIRLINES MAGAZINE. There's a great section from my friend Ken Lehner, now of the Rockland Boulders indie baseball club, about how he single-handedly created the Caniacs fan group in a marketing
meeting. And cool info from the Minnesota Timberwolves about brightening up their home games by incentivizing a fan group.
